Places of Sanctuary Ireland (PoSI) is the umbrella body for designated sanctuary accredited groups and organisations in the Republic of Ireland, providing a focus for coordination and development of the network across the country. 

PoSI, while inspired by its counterpart in the UK, the City of Sanctuary movement, is independent from it from a governance perspective. It does, however, maintain close links with its fellow organisation, underpinned by a Memorandum of Understanding between both entities. 

In addition to initiating and developing Sanctuary activities, the role of PoSI is to ensure that there is good communication across the organisations and groups that form the network, coordinating decision-making and helping to raise the profile of the Sanctuary movement across the country.
